[Standards] tab

Creates PDF files conforming to the PDF/A or PDF/X standard.
Note
  • When PDF/A or PDF/X is selected, the use of security functions is prohibited.
  • When PDF/X is selected, the JBIG2 compression becomes unavailable. Change the compression method, if necessary.
  • Even when [Standards Compliance:] is set to PDF/A or PDF/X; if [Append the PDF File to the Existing PDF File] is selected for [Setting When File Already Exists] and the destination folder already has a file with the same name as the PDF file to be created; the PDF file will be saved in the same format as the existing file.

Select standards under [Standards Compliance:].

PDF/A-1b, PDF/A-2b, and PDF/A-4

PDF/A-1b is a standard that conforms to ISO 19005-1 partially, and is based on the PDF 1.4 specification. This format is suitable for the long-term preservation of electronic documents.
PDF/A-2b is a standard that conforms to ISO 19005-2 partially, and is based on the PDF 1.7 specification. This format is suitable for the long-term preservation of electronic documents.
PDF/A-4 is a standard that conforms to ISO 19005-4 partially, and is based on the PDF 2.0 specification. This format is suitable for the long-term preservation of electronic documents.
When [PDF/A-1b], [PDF/A-2b], or [PDF/A-4] have been selected, the following functions cannot be set.
  • Adding security (Security tab)
  • When PDF/A-1b is selected, setting JPEG2000 as the compression method for color/grayscale images (Compression Options tab)
  • When PDF/A-1b is selected, setting the watermark opacity level to a value other than 100% (Watermark tab)
Note
  • When set to PDF/A, the PDF version setting goes to [Auto].
  • When [Append the PDF File to the Existing PDF File] is set under [Setting When File Already Exists], depending on the source files combined, the resulting PDF may not be PDF/A compliant.

PDF/X-1a (2001) and PDF/X-1a (2003)

PDF/X-1a conforms to ISO 15930 and facilitates exchanging data for print and exchanging graphics. Set [Standards Compliance:] to PDF/X-1a (2001) or (2003).
PDF/X-1a creates a PDF file mainly based on the following specifications.

[Colorspace]

Device RGB is unavailable, and Device CMYK is applied.

[Document Information]

A provisional text string is entered when [Title] on the [Document] tab of this product is empty.

[Font]

All fonts are embedded when all fonts are not set to be embedded on the [Embed Fonts] tab. The [When Not Compliant] setting is applied when un-embeddable fonts are detected.
Note
When [PDF/X-1a(2001)] or [PDF/X-1a(2003)] is selected, the following functions cannot be set.
  • Adding security (Security tab)
  • Downsampling (Compression Options tab)
  • JPEG2000 color/grayscale images compression (Compression Options tab)
  • JBIG2 monochrome images compression (Compression Options tab)
  • Adding watermarks with an opacity level other than 100% (Watermarks tab)
  • Adding URL hyperlinks (Documents tab)
  • Downsampling of image PDFs (Image Output tab)
Note
  • When setting to PDF/X-1a, the PDF version setting will be set to [Automatic].
  • When [Append the PDF File to the Existing PDF File] is set under [Setting When File Already Exists], depending on the source files combined, the resulting PDF may not be PDF/X-1a compliant.

[When Not Compliant:]

When situations of the following sorts are automatically detected during processing, you will be unable to generate a PDF that conforms to the specified standard.
  • Embed-prohibited fonts are used
  • No ICC profile is found in the install destination

ICC profile describes the color management specification based on the standard published by International Color Consortium (ICC).
Select the process to be used in this case.

[Cancel Job]

Cancels the PDF conversion and displays an error message.

[Continue]

Creates standard PDFs not compliant to the PDF/A-1b or PDF/X-1a format.

[Output Intent Profile:]

Select one of the following as the color printing characteristic.

When PDF/A has been selected

  • ColorMatch RGB

When PDF/X has been selected

  • US Web Coated (SWOP) v2
  • US Web Uncoated v2
  • Coated GRACoL 2006 (ISO 12647-2:2004)
  • Web Coated SWOP Grade 3 Paper
  • Web Coated SWOP Grade 5 Paper
  • Coated FOGRA27 (ISO 12647-2:2004)
  • Web Coated FOGRA28 (ISO 12647-2:2004)
  • Uncoated FOGRA29 (ISO 12647-2:2004)
  • Coated FOGRA39 (ISO 12647-2:2004)
  • Japan Web Coated (Ad)
  • Japan Color 2001 Coated
  • Japan Color 2001 Uncoated
  • Japan Color 2002 Newspaper
