[Specify Areas and Recognize] dialog box
This dialog appears when you select [Specify the area and recognize] in the [OCR Advanced Settings] dialog box, and performed OCR processing.
First a preview of the page to be OCRed is displayed, then on the page, specify automatically or manually a range in which you want to run OCR.

If you choose to process a PDF file by specifying [Perform OCR only on the image part in the page], only the image part to be OCRed will be displayed, instead of the whole page preview.
[Layout Analysis]
Runs an auto layout analysis with the OCR engine. When you click this button, a recognition frame appears on the document that is displayed in the lower window. In the subsequent OCR processing, characters within this frame are scanned.
If you click this button for a page for which layout analysis has already been performed, then layout analysis is performed for the area within the frame.

Note
- You can also specify the recognition frame manually. You can also modify the recognition frame manually after running the auto layout analysis.
- To add a frame, in the lower window, drag the mouse to draw a rectangular frame.
- To move the frame, click on the frame to select it, and then drag and drop it to the desired location.
- To resize the frame, click on the frame to select it, and then place the mouse cursor over the frame while dragging it.
- To delete the frame, click on the frame to select it, and then click [Delete].
[Delete]
Deletes the selected recognition frames.
[Delete All Areas]
Deletes the displayed recognition frames.
[Zoom In (+)], [Zoom Out (-)]
Changes the zoom ratio of the page displayed in the window. You can type 1x, 1/2x, 1/4x, 1/8x, 1/16x.
[Start]
Begins OCR processing. If recognition frames are specified, recognizes characters within them. If no recognition frame is specified, performs automatic layout analysis and then starts character recognition.
[Cancel]
Stops OCR processing. You will be prompted with a message.
[Apply to All Pages from This Page]
Applies the frames specified on the current page to the next pages for OCR processing. When beginning OCR processing on the next pages, the [Specify Areas and Recognize] dialog box will not appear.
