Creating Documents From Scanned Data

Q.1
What are image file formats that can be converted into a DocuWorks document and converted from a DocuWorks document?
A.1
Image file formats that can be converted into a DocuWorks document are bitmap, JPEG, TIFF and PDF. Also, importing a multi-page TIFF file creates a multi-page DocuWorks document. Image file formats that can be converted from a DocuWorks document are JPEG (Normal, High Compression, High Quality), bitmap, TIFF (No Compression, Packbits, JPEG, JPEG (TTN2) and G4), and PDF (High Compression).

Q.2
Can any size of image data be imported into DocuWorks?
A.2
There is a limit to the size of images that can be imported into DocuWorks.
  • You cannot create DocuWorks documents from large JPEG files exceeding 1 GB.
  • When creating documents from bitmap files or TIFF files, you cannot create any DocuWorks document if the size of data before compression is larger than 1 GB.
  • DocuWorks documents cannot be created if the image size is larger than 65,500 pixels (width by height).

Q.3
I have an A0-size image. Can I import it into DocuWorks at A0 size?
A.3
Yes, you can.

Q.4
Are there any precautions for converting data from image processing programs to a DocuWorks document concerning image formats?
A.4
DocuWorks can import general use image formats such as TIFF, JPEG, and BMP. If the filing system or programs you use have the function of converting to these image formats, you can convert them into DocuWorks documents.

Q.5
Why are there differences in image size and image quality between the results obtained by converting TIFF, BMP, or JPEG files to DocuWorks documents from image processing programs through DocuWorks Printer and the results obtained by converting the same files to DocuWorks documents by dragging and dropping them directly to Desk?
A.5
Image files with the extensions TIFF (TIF), JPEG (JPG) and BMP are processed differently depending on which of the two methods is used when converting them into DocuWorks documents. When converting image files into DocuWorks documents, the recommended procedure is to drag-and-drop directly into Desk. This results in the best conversion in terms of image quality and size. With Microsoft Word or Microsoft Excel files, the result is the same no matter which conversion method is used.

Q.6
Is it possible to convert images from digital cameras into DocuWorks documents?
A.6
It is possible to convert images of a digital camera into a DocuWorks document if they are in TIFF, JPEG or BMP format. After conversion, use the "Correction of digital camera images" plug-in to correct the image in a manner appropriate for the image subject, for example, portrait or scenery.

Q.7
Can you import scanned files to a particular folder?
A.7
Scanned files are placed in the current folder of Desk by default. You can specify the user folder or a user definition folder created under the user folder as the folder where scanned filed are to be placed. In [Save Scanned Document] under [DocuWorks Desk Options] in the [Preferences] dialog box, select [Specify a folder to save to] under [Save to], and specify a folder name.
