[DocuWorks Desk Options] - [Scan and Import] [Preferences] dialog box
Use this tab to set how the data is processed to create DocuWorks documents from data imported from a scanner.
[Paper size for scanning setting (TWAIN)]
Decides the paper size for use when scanning images.
[If scanned image exceeds the maximum size, fit into the maximum size]
[Maximum size]
Choices:
[A3] / [2A0 (long)]
Select this check box to fit the scanned image into [Maximum size] of paper if it exceeds the paper size selected in [Maximum size].
If you select the [If scanned image exceeds the maximum size, fit into the maximum size] check box, the scanned image will be reduced to fit to [Maximum size] of paper.
By default, this box is selected.
If you select the [If scanned image exceeds the maximum size, fit into the maximum size] check box, the scanned image will be reduced to fit to [Maximum size] of paper.
By default, this box is selected.
[Fit to Standard Size Paper]
DocuWorks will select the smallest standard paper size that can show the whole image.
[Fit to Imported Image]
DocuWorks will select the same size document as the imported image.
[Color Image quality and compression rate for scanning(TWAIN)]
Specify the image quality and compression rate that will be applied when scanning images. The default is [Normal].
The settings of [Color quality and compression rate for scanning(TWAIN)] will be applied to images according to the image file type as follows:
The settings of [Color quality and compression rate for scanning(TWAIN)] will be applied to images according to the image file type as follows:
Type | Settings to be applied |
---|---|
JPEG files | The settings of [Color Image quality and compression rate] will be overwritten. Instead, JPEG data compression rate will be used. |
TIFF files in JPEG compression format | The settings of [Color Image quality and compression rate] will be overwritten. Instead, the compression rate of JPEG data extracted from the TIFF image will be used. When it is impossible to extract JPEG data from a TIFF image or is impossible to convert extracted JPEG data to DocuWorks document, the settings of [Color Image quality and compression rate] will be applied to such an image file. |
TIFF files in a compression format other than JPEG | The settings of [Color Image quality and compression rate] will be applied. |
Any other image files than can be imported to Desk | The settings of [Color Image quality and compression rate] will be applied. |
- [Priority on compression rate]
Image processing which gives priority to small size over high quality - [Normal]
Image processing using a standard compression rate. The resulting size is slightly greater than with [Priority on compression rate]. - [Priority on image quality]
Image processing which gives priority to high quality over small size. The resulting size is greater than with standard. - [No Loss]
The quality will not be degraded, but the size will be almost larger than that produced by the High Quality method.
[Apply "No loss" if compression rate for "No loss" has higher rate.]
Even if [Priority on compression rate], [Normal], or [Priority on image quality] is selected, the image in which [No Loss] is considered to be higher in compression rate will be compressed with [No Loss].
If [No Loss] is selected, you cannot select this box.
By default, this check box is cleared.
If [No Loss] is selected, you cannot select this box.
By default, this check box is cleared.
[Scanning]
[Close dialog box on scanner after scanning]
Specifies to close the dialog box of the scanner when you finish scanning. Select this check box to close the dialog box automatically. However, if you have specified settings in the [OCR processing for scanned document] or selected [Determine document name from OCR result] in the [Save Scanned Document] tab, the dialog box of the scanner will close regardless of this check box.
By default, this box is cleared.

[Stack pages in reverse order]
Specifies the order of stacking pages when scanning a multi-page document. Select this check box to stack pages in the reverse order in which the document was scanned.
By default, this box is cleared.

[OCR processing for scanned document]
[Automatically rotate page]
Rotates scanned documents by multiples of 90 degrees so that the page will be in the direction to be able to read the text.
By default, this box is cleared.

[Perform OCR on scanned document]
Performs OCR-processing on the scanned document. If you select the check box, OCR will be performed on the document.

[Process only the first page by OCR]
Performs OCR processing only on the first page. If this check box is cleared, OCR processing is performed on all pages.
By default, this box is cleared.

[Reduce noise of image before OCR]
Reduces noise of monochrome image. This reduction is done on OCR processed image, so it will not be applied to documents.
By default, this box is cleared.
By default, this box is cleared.
Note
If you select [Perform OCR processing in color] for [OCR processing for color image], [Reduce noise of image before OCR] cannot be set.
[Level]
Specifies the level of noise reduction for monochrome images.
The default is [Normal].
The default is [Normal].
Note
If you select [Perform OCR processing in color] for [OCR processing for color image], [Level] cannot be set.
[OCR processing for color image]
Specifies whichever takes the priority between recognition and speed, when color and grayscale images are OCR processed. This function is available if [Perform OCR on scanned document] is selected.
The default is [Convert to B&W and prioritize speed].
The default is [Convert to B&W and prioritize speed].
Note
[Convert to B&W and Prioritize Recognition] is useful for the outline characters or characters in pale colors, as well as the characters laid out on the background images. However, it may take more time in OCR-processing than [Convert to B&W and prioritize speed].
[OCR detailed setting]
Set up the detailed setting for OCR.
If the DocuWorks built-in OCR is used, the [OCR Advanced Settings] dialog box appears.
